Satisfactory
Academic Progress
The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, requires that students
make satisfactory academic progress in order to receive financial assistance.
In order to be awarded or receive any such aid, a student must be accepted
to the University in good academic standing (i.e., no conditional admittance,
etc.), be enrolled in credit courses leading
toward a degree or teaching certificate, and maintain satisfactory academic
progress in the course of study pursued. This policy is consistently
applied to all enrollment periods regardless of whether or not the student
received aid.
Three elements
are utilized in determining satisfactory academic progress. These elements
are: grade point average, enrollment requirements, and maximum time
frame.
GRADE
POINT AVERAGE
The student must maintain the grade point average required for continued
enrollment. Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative
grade point average. A graduate student, regardless of enrollment classification,
must maintain a 3.0 minimum grade point average. Please refer to the
Scholastic Probation, Suspension, Dismissal section of the Texas A&M
University-Corpus Christi catalog for additional information.
ENROLLMENT

At the end of each Spring Semester, students will need to satisfactorily
complete enrollment requirements. Enrollment requirements are listed

PROGRAM - Students who are enrolled in the Doctoral Program will
have their maximum time frame status evaluated on a case by case basis.
*Summer Session(s) are not included in the semester limits.
REMEDIAL COURSEWORK
Students may receive financial assistance for remedial coursework if
acceptance to a program has been confirmed, and the remedial coursework
is necessary to complete the program. Students cannot receive financial
assistance for remedial coursework if their acceptance to a program
is based on the completion of the remedial work. Remedial coursework
is limited to 24 semester hours.
INCOMING
TRANSFER STUDENTS
Incoming transfer students will be considered to be making satisfactory
academic progress if they are accepted to the University according to
the institution's admission requirements and if they transfer in with
a minimum cumulative 2.0 grade point average.
PROBATION/SUSPENSION POLICY
FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE PROBATION
Students on scholastic probation will be automatically placed on financial
assistance probation. Students who do not meet the enrollment requirements
at the end of the Spring will be placed on progress probation for the
Summer Session(s). Students may receive financial assistance during
the probationary period.
FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE SUSPENSION
Students on scholastic suspension/dismissal or enforced withdrawal will
be automatically placed on financial assistance suspension. Students
who fail to meet enrollment requirements at the end of the Summer session(s)
will be placed on progress suspension. Suspension will also occur when
the maximum time frame is exhausted. Students on suspension will
not receive financial aid -
SOLUTIONS
REINSTATEMENT
Probationary status can be removed by successfully completing the enrollment
requirements and maintaining the minimum grade point average. The student
should notify the Office of Student Financial Assistance in writing
to insure removal of probationary status. Students who are on suspension
can be placed on a probationary status by successfully completing enrollment
requirements and maintaining the minimum grade point average.
APPEAL/WAIVER
Students who fail to maintain satisfactory progress due to extenuating
circumstances (i.e., serious illness, serious injury, death of an immediate
family member, etc.) have the right to appeal their status. On the Satisfactory
Academic Progress Waiver Application, students should provide a detailed
explanation with appropriate documentation of the extenuating circumstance.
The application for appeal/waiver must be submitted to the Office of
Student Financial Assistance within two weeks of the date of the suspension
letter. If appeal/waiver is approved by the Financial Aid Appeals Committee,
aid can be continued if the student is otherwise eligible. If denied,
the student must reinstate according to actions outlined in the previous
section.
