Building Bridges Award

This award goes to a member of the community who helps build bridges between the campus and the community.

2005 Cinda LeBus: Cinda is the Director of Education for Planned Parenthood and serves as an adjunct instructor here on campus, and is enthusiastic about serving our students. She has engineered several programming overlaps between Planned Parenthood and University Programming. "Cinda is recognized today for her huge role in making Paint the Island Pink such a successful event. She called in one day, asked how she could help, and has been active ever since. Cinda served on the planning committee for this event, committed her organization to helping out, found volunteers to string pink ribbon around campus, developed a table full of products to buy to support cancer research, and was one of our panelists. Cinda has clearly developed a bridge between the Women's Center and the Corpus Christi Community."

2004 Amy Tilton-Jones: Amy is recognized for her continued support over the years with the Get the Job program. Amy, a speech instructor at Del Mar College, has worked to connect our two schools for the last few years. "She has participated in every level of this committee - from committee work, to panelist, to caterer if need be. Amy has handled it all with tact and finesse, and is a joy to work with."

2003 Nancy Wesson-Dodd: Nancy not only represents the Women's Center out in the community, she "has demonstrated a high level commitment to furthering the goals of the Women's Center in the community."

2003 Linda Allen and Peg MacPhail: Linda and Peg are both recognized for their support of the Women's Center. They were both responsible for introducing the Women's Center to the Therapy Sisters, which resulted in a successful Women's History Month kickoff event. Linda is also responsible for doing an incredible job as the Women's Center Web site administrator. "Their contributions illustrate the extent to which we really depend on the help and support of our friends in the community."

2002 Sandra Arispe: Sandra has been a wonderful agent for the Women's Center. She secured funding from CITGO which allowed us to put on our Swoopes event. She is always a phone call or email away. "Sandra believes in the work of the Center and supports it however she can."

2001 Ann Thorn: Ann diligently worked as our liaison with Del mar College. She actively participated in the Get the Job program and assisted with fundraising ideas for the Cheryl Hein memorial.

2001 Nada Frazier-Cano: Nada "has made every effort to publicize what we do to the general public and she has also tried to provide links to the community for future projects."

2000 Sheri Emerick: Sheri is recognized for her outstanding work as a committee member on the Get the Job planning committee. "She was responsible for donations, student models, coordinating and commentating the style show, and producing photos of the models. She has gone way above her duties for the past two years."

2000 Rosa Maria Cervantes: Rosa volunteered her time as the speaker for this year's Take Back the Night program and has been involved with campus activities for years. Her nominator said "Rosa is particularly dedicated to the plight of women and children, and is constantly vigilant to assure that these victims receive their due in an often male-dominated legal system; she is an outstanding example of what women can do on their own, and how a caring individual can dedicate a life time to others, in spite of the obstacles a single woman often faces as a parent and member of the larger community."
