Unsung Hero Award
This award goes to a person who works
tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that Women's Center projects and
events are a success.
2005 Jacque Hamilton: Jacque is at almost every Women's
Center event - volunteering, assisting, and going the extra mile. She's
done everything from hauling in garage sale stuff, to planning Paint
the Island Pink and stringing miles of pink tape around campus, to
setting up at TOGS, to being a huge part of the grant writing
committee, and she's our Secretary. "Jacque is a tremendous asset to
the Center. She is enthusiastic and always willing to lend a helping
hand. Jacque even helped at the Y Women in Careers event by moving
tables, and the assisting with guest check-in. Jacque's just that kind
of person - always willing to jump in and do whatever is necessary
witha minimum amount of fuss.
2004 Jon David Fisher: Jon found his way to the Women's
Center through a class project for Michelle Moore's computer science
class. He and a group completely re-did the Women's Center's outdated
webpage, and have worked to make it more user-friendly. Jon volunteered
to be the Women's Center website administrator after the completion of
his class. He turned down an official credit-earning internship for
this position so that he could keep it a volunteer job. "He's done a
great job, been fantastic about doing what we ask of him, and has
offered training to the staff regarding website maintenance. The
website is truly current for the first time in years!"
2003 Jan Wilson: Jan was behind nearly every Women's
Center event this year. She "is always eager to help us out with
anything and she supports the Women's Center whole heartedly."
2003 Sharon Talley: Sharon is always the first to sign up
for whatever the Women's Center has going on. "She is very involved
with the Women's Center and always has a great attitude about any
task."
2003 Maxie Beyer: Maxie goes the extra mile and always
"keeps a great sense of humor." She has picked up the ball repeatedly
to ensure successful events for the Center and is a "tireless worker on
every project involving the Women's Center (and does it cheerfully to
boot!)"
2003 JoAnna Benavides-Franke: JoAnna is consistent with
her support of the Women's Center and its programs. JoAnna not only
values the Women's Center and what it stands for, she "always makes
anything we do fun, she laughs, and has a good time no matter what."
2002 Linda Cook: Linda is recognized for her continuous
support and assistance to the Women's Center. Linda has done everything
from presenting a panel to assisting the office staff when they are
short handed. On top of being Chair of the Board of Directors, she
always agrees to take on the work of the Center in whatever capacity
she is asked to. "She does whatever is needed when it is needed with no
nonsense."
2002 Rhonda Wilson Williamson: In taking on her first year
as the Women's Center Coordinator, Rhonda has had to accept even
greater responsibilities than imagined. She has filled her position
"with grace, poise, and dignity, even when she is being called upon to
fill several objectives at once." She has contributed to the successful
Get the Job program, as well as, to the extensive planning for Women's
History Month events. Rhonda has been described as "responsible,
organized, detail-oriented, committed, hilarious, and kind - absolutely
everything you could wish for in a colleague." She is TIRELESS in
making the Women's Center her top priority. Her continuous devotion to
the Women's Center proves her planned longevity of being involved with
and supporting the Center.
2002 Sharon Herrera: Sharon was the co-chair of the "Get
the Job" committee in 2002. She did an excellent job of planning and
organizing. Sharon was an incredible "behind the scenes" asset for this
event - doing everything from hemming pants and fitting students, to
catering.
2001 Susan Loudermilk: Susan is recognized "as the birth
mother of Telling Our Grandmothers' Stories. She has proved that she is
invaluable to our organization. Susan has done an incredible job of
crafting an event that honors women, our families, and also manages to
meld faculty, staff, and students as equal participants in a Women's
Center event."
2001 Sarah Heath: Sarah "offers quiet strength and
support, without having to be asked." She is "unbelievable" and gives
"excellent leadership." Sarah has diligently worked to support women's
projects and the Women's Center. She is impressive in her commitment to
the Center.
2000 Judi Sutherland: Judi has been influential in her
role as a committee member of the Get the Job committee and was
responsible for the Showcasing Women Authors event.
2000 Elisabeth Mermann-Joswiak: Elisabeth is recognized
for her organization of the Open Mic event for Women's History Month
for the past 6 years.
2000 Mari Fuentes-Martin: Mari has chaired the Women's
History Month committee for 5 years and has been influential with how
the Women's Center handles programming details.
2000 Nada Frazier-Cano: Nada is a motivational speaker in
the community, chair of the Nontraditional Student group, and a
volunteer at Women's Center events. Nada was instrumental in setting up
the Women's Center in the University Center location, establishing
procedures, and accomplishing projects and events.
