1. Review Nominations for Piper Professor Awards
a. Review and Discuss Application Packets
b. Select one Nominee to put forward to Norma Cantu

The Committee reviewed the four faculty applications that were received for this awards call. A brief review of the qualifications of desired candidates (from the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation) was read from the invitation letter. Members of the committee then ranked the applications and scores were tallied. There was a brief discussion of the candidates and application packets. The committee chair also discussed the process for awards decisions later in the year.

A candidate was selected to put forward to the provost’s office. The chair took the application to Norma Cantu. Norma related that since this is our recommended candidate, we should keep our selection to ourselves. The chair shared this with committee members. Awards packets were removed from the faculty senate office, so that the candidate’s identity could not be discerned by its absence.

2. Discuss Transparency Issue (as related by the Speaker)
a. Regents Award Process and the events of last term

It was brought to the attention of the chair, that there were some issues with the decisions made regarding the Regents awards call last year. The chair discussed this with the committee and offered possible solutions to the transparency issues. Agendas and minutes will be kept of the meetings and delivered to the faculty senate office.

3. Instructional Technology Concerns
a. Review Issue List from Senate Retreat in August
b. Discuss Comments
c. Develop a Priority List for Next Action

The committee discussed the next plan of action for its assigned task. The chair offered a suggestion (as related from the speaker) and a meeting will be set up with Mr. Chuck Irby to discuss the concerns listed.
