Scholarships, Summer Internships and Fellowships

There are a number of scholarships, internships, research fellowships and summer job opportunities available to Physics students. Additional information can found at the provided links.

  1. Scholarships
     
    1. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announces program guidelines for the 2008 competition cycle of DHS Scholarship Program. The deadline for submitting an online application is January 7, 2008.

    2. American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) is now administering the Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship Program. Application opens around January 24, 2008.

    3. Texas Space Grant Consortium and the Aviation and Space Foundation of Texas in partnership with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration have established the Columbia Crew Memorial Scholarship Program in memory of the Space Shuttle Columbia astronauts. The scholarship award is $1,000. Application packages are due june 8, 2008.

    4. The S. Burgin Dunn Physics Scholarship is a $600/year scholarship available to TAMUK Physics majors with 60 credit hours or more. Application packages are due November 1st and April 1st.

    5. The Alumni Physics Scholarship is a $600/year scholarship available to all TAMUK Physics majors. Application packages are due November 1st and April 1st.
       

  2. Summer Internships
     
    1. The NASA Academy has information on 10-week resident summer internship program (co-sponsored by the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program) for undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing professional and leadership careers in aerospace-related fields. Application deadline is  Jan 16, 2008.

    2. Nuclear Engineering Internships award includes placement on a project with an undergraduate stipend of $400/week and a graduate stipend of $500/week. Application deadline is Feb. 15, 2008.

    3. The Goddard Center for Astrobiology is offering summer internships to undergraduate applicants who have expressed an interest in gaining research experience related to Astrobiology. Application deadline is February 28, 2008. 

    4. Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education has information on a number of undergraduate opportunities at Federal research laboratories.

    5. The National Science Foundation sponsors the Research Experience for Undergraduates program, which frequently includes financial support, housing, and travel.

    6. Since Texas A&M has a navy ROTC, all of the regional A&M school students are eligible for summer research positions in Navy Research Labs through a new ROTC program. The student's themselves don't have to be in ROTC!! For additional information, contact Dr. Daniel Marble.
