    Petra A. Martinez, MSN, BSN, RN received her Associate Degree from

    Del Mar College, Bachelors Degree from Corpus Christi State University and

    Masters Degree from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.  She is currently

    responsible for the Nursing Learning  Resource Lab in which she coordinates

    and oversees student practice skills labs and skills check off for junior and senior

    nursing  students. She is a clinical faculty for fundamental & Med Surg students.
    

   She started her career in nursing as a Medical Surgical nurse with Oncology focus 

   in which she did bedside nursing care and charge nurse.  Other experiences include

   staff nurse and charge nurse in an Outpatient Surgery Unit responsible for preop, 

   post op care of surgical patients, minor procedures, lumbar punctures,

   thoracentesis, paracentesis, spinal blocks, urodynamic studies and chemotherapy

   administration.  She was an endocopy nurse - esophagascopies, colonoscopies,

   ERCPs and peg placements.
    
   She has worked as an Education Coordinator with responsibilities as the clinical 

   educator for Medical Surgical units, outpatient clinics. She was responsible for

   hospital orientation and nursing orientation as well as nursing course such   as

  Chemotherapy Qualification, IV Therapy, Charge Nurse, Med Surg, and Preceptor

   Program.  She was manager of the Education Department for a year.
    
  She has worked as CNE coordinator for programs in M/S, OB, Newborn,

  Oncology, Trauma, Pediatric, and Critical Care.  She works with various

  organizations on CE programs for Nurses, as RN planner for these various

  programs. She is the current CNE chairperson for TAMU-CC CON.
   
  She volunteers and current is the president for Nurse Oncology  

  Education Program Area Workgroup III, which brings Oncology programs to  

  local  nurses.  She is a  volunteer for the American Cancer Society, currently Team

  Captain for a Relay for Life team and a CPR instructor trainer for the American

  Heart Association and the March of Dimes.
    
  She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau EtA Omicron Chapter.
