Institute Information
The 2008 Advanced Placement Teacher’s Summer Institute on the Island is a four and-a-half day intensive continuing education institute providing high school teachers with professional development and strategies to enhance classroom performance and engage students of Advanced Placement courses. The consultants selected to lead the individual course sessions are experienced, enthusiastic Advanced Placement teachers who meet the College Board standards for approved consultants.
The 2008 AP* Summer Institute will be held on Monday, June 23 - Thursday, June 26, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday, June 27, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Methods of Payment
A check, money order or credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express) must accompany registration. Checks and money orders are to be made payable to: Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
Due to poor facimile resolution quality and potentiona for errors or missing registration we are unable to accept faxed registrations. We are unable to accept faxed registrations. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
Important Note: Niether purchase orders nor faxed registrations will be accepted forms of payment for AP/Pre-AP Summer Institutes.
Confirmations
It is essential that participants complete all of the summer address and school address information requested legibly on the registration form. Failure to do so could result in returned mailed confirmations, the inability to communicate with a participant to share important information or instructions, or other issues that could negatively affect the participant’s experience at the 2008 APTSI. Information provided on the registration form is not shared with other parties and is used exclusively by the Office of Community Outreach at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to notify participants of information regarding the 2008 APTSI or future APTSI’s on the Island.
A registration confirmation packet will be sent to the home address of the participant upon receipt of payment from the participant and/or school district.
Transfers (Substitutions) and Cancellations
Cancellations for the must be postmarked and/or received in writing by close of business on the dates listed below in order to receive a refund less a 20% cancellation fee. There will be no refunds after the dates listed below. Transfers for registrants can be made and $25.00 processing fee will be assessed for each transfer made after the transfer deadline.
Last day for cancellations/transfers for the 2008 APTSI is June 12, 2008.
Course Cancellations
Every effort is made to maintain course offerings for the 2008 APTSI & Pre-APTSI conferences on the Island. However, forces beyond our or the consultant’s control such as inclement weather, illness, or a family emergency may require a schedule adjustment and/or cancellation. We will notify participants promptly of any changes by mail, e-mail, or the 2008 APTSI website. To better inform participants of such changes it is important that the registration form is legibly completed with all contact information for the participant’s school district as well as the participant’s permanent home contact information.
Attendance Requirement
Participants are required to attend the entire 2008 APTSI/Pre-APTSI in order to receive certification of attendance to teach AP classes and/or receive reimbursement from the Texas Education Association. Unregistered visitors will not be allowed to attend sessions.
On-Campus Lodging
On-campus lodging is managed by Camden/Miramar- Located on the Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi campus, nestled on Ward Island on the shores of Oso Bay, Miramar residence halls offer so much more than campus dormitories and is a short walking distance from the main campus. Each suite is designed with a private sleeping area that includes a twin bed, nightstand, and built in desk and chair. Each set of suites shares a bathroom while offering a private vanity for each guest. Additional amenities include a compact microwave/refrigerator and private temperature control. Full kitchen, laundry and study areas are available.
Participants are responsible for supplying sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, and toiletries. Media equipment such as laptop computers, mini-DVD players or TVs, and telephones are welcome, but are the sole responsibility of the participant.
On-campus dormitory/student lodging will be available for the 2008 APTSI/Pre-APTSI for your convenience we have bundled the cost. Please make sure to indicate lodging preference on your registration form. Due to our limited availability, on-campus lodging will be assigned in the order of received completed registrations.

Climate/Clothing
Summer days on the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi campus are often hot and humid with a light afternoon breeze. Participants are encouraged to wear, light, comfortable, casual, clothing. Campus classroom facilities are air-conditioned, but due to the diversity of classroom participants comfort levels, we ask that you include a light jacket or sweater.
Air-Travel
Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements. The distance from the airport to the university is approximately 15.2 miles. Travel time from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to the Corpus Christi International Airport can take 30 minutes or more depending on traffic.
Transportation
Participants are responsible for transportation to and from the airport and the institute.
Parking
Parking permits are required to park on the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi campus. Parking is available on a first come, first serve basis. Participants are encouraged to arrive early. A permit and campus map will be enclosed in your confirmation packet. There are no parking fees to park on the campus, however, tickets are issued to vehicles that do not display a permit, park illegally, or do not obey posted speed limits, and other violations.
Texas Education Agency Reimbursement
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) helps fund the attendance of public school AP and Pre-AP teachers (sixth through the twelfth grades) at AP Summer Institutes endorsed by the College Board. This funding is provided through reimbursements to school districts of up to $450 per teacher towards the tuition. Please note: TEA will not make reimbursements payable to individuals or to schools. TEA reimburses school districts only. Teachers must file for reimbursement through an online application and submit a copy of the certificate they receive upon completion of the training.
