A HYMN TO MOONGODDESS

An earlier draft appeared in ISIS RISING: The Goddess in the New Aeon, April 2000.

tonight
you have chosen
silver shining of the moon
you wave gently
ebony wand in your hand
who could tell

are you casting a spell
are you breaking one

I can't

fear
you I drop my armor and shield
you smile and seem to depart
hence this dirge
(dark one might surmise
I would prefer elegy like)

what is a man
amongst immortals
a terrible curse
is laid upon him
and he must die

I sing

tonight
the Great Drum is struck
and the Great Bell responds
we hear the chant
yet know no words
the teaching is delivered

nying je chenmo
nying je chenmo
nying je chenmo
compassion
perfect compassion
beyond compassion

now I have hope

tonight
the doubts are resolved
you have never arrived
have never been gone
you are
now here
I behold

tonight
the beads on your wrist

from Africa
the drums
the dance
the flames
the masks
the shields

so full of color as you
are full of light woven
by the wand
in your hand I trust

tonight
you have chosen
silver shining of the moon
it fits well with the luster of lakes
your pearls
for the final time
the ebony wand is waved
the ancient scroll unfolds
I'd like to say

your beauty is earthless

yet I only tremble
I cannot utter a word
